Australian rapper, songwriter and model Iggy Azalea and her Azalea Street production company have signed a first-look deal with Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios, the scripted and nonscripted programming studios at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.
Under the pact, Azalea will collaborate with both studios to create content designed to reach a millennial audience, with topics ranging from social justice and tolerance to empowering young women.
”Creating television that is reflective of my generation always has been an aspiration of mine,” Azalea said. “I am incredibly excited to start working on my ideas and am humbled that Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios have given me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. ”
Azalea took the music world by storm with her 2014 album The New Classic and its hit single, “Fancy.” It made her the first non-American female rapper to reach the top of Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Just last month, Azalea was confirmed as a new judge for The X Factor Australia. She is also credited with directing several of her own music videos.

“Iggy is a strong, passionate voice for her generation and has incredible creative instincts in all aspects of media,” said Dawn Olmstead, EVP Development at Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios. “We already have projects in both the scripted and nonscripted areas. We are very excited to have her join forces with us.”
The deal was brokered by Patrick Hughes of Primary Wave Entertainment, Azalea’s producing partner.
