Fantastic Fest unveiled the first wave of programming for the nation’s biggest genre fest, which will include a screening of Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Organizers said the pic will show during the fest’s opening weekend, ahead of its September 30 U.S. theatrical release via Fox.

Burton is expected to attend the 12th annual Fantastic Fest, which runs September 22-29 in Austin. It is founded by Alamo Drafthouse CEO Tim League. Last year’s fest saw deals for Kurt Russell’s Bone Tomahawk ahead of its bow there as well as the horror pic Darling.

Among the other big films unveiled today are Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, which bowed at Cannes. Another Fantastic Fest specialty is the world premiere of Phantasm: Ravager, the latest in Don Coscarelli’s classing fantasy/horror/sci-fi franchise. That will go along with a special screening of Phantasm: Remastered, a new version of the 1979 original that will stream live to art house theaters nationwide as part of Art House Theater Day on September 24.

Based on the 2011 YA best seller by Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine’s stars Eva Green as the titular head of an orphanage for kids with various oddities — from being weightless to invisible and pretty much everything else in between. Check out the latest trailer here.

This year’s Fantastic Fest theme is “dishoom!” (the sound of a punch landing in ’60s Bollywood films), featuring a dedicated Indian block of new and repertory pics.
