Construction Worker Killed On ‘Blade Runner’ Set In Hungary

A construction worker was killed today in Hungary while tearing down sets for the still-untitled Blade Runner sequel. The film crew had wrapped production at a sound stage in Budapest and already moved to a new location when the accident occurred.

A spokesman for Alcon Entertainment, which is producing the film, said the local worker was not a member of the film crew but was employed by a subcontractor to tear down the set. The still-unidentified worker was reportedly working under a platform when scaffolding collapsed on top of him.

The film, which stars Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright and Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard, is being directed by Denis Villeneuve. The story picks up several decades after the conclusion of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original. Warner Bros will open the film October 6, 2017.
