Gypsy follows the journey of Jean Holloway (Watts), a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives. Crudup will play Jean’s husband Michael, who will navigate their twisted and complicated marriage as well as his own morally gray relationships.
Fifty Shades Of Grey helmer Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the first two episodes of the drama, which has a 10-episode order for a 2017 premiere. Liza Chasin and Rubin serve as executive producers, with Rubin also serving as writer. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Andrew Stearn and Watts will serve as executive producers.
This marks the first series gig for Crudup, who had long been pursued by TV casting directors. He just wrapped Alien: Covenant, directed by Ridley Scott, and will next be seen in 20th Century Women alongside Annette Bening, Elle Fanning and Greta Gerwig; Jackie alongside Natalie Portman; and Life At These Speeds, based on the novel by Jeremy Jackson. He recently appeared in Oscar Best Picture winner Spotlight and shared the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Crudup is repped by CAA and Lighthouse Management.
