The year-old controversy surrounding Archie Panjabi’s departure from CBS’ The Good Wife lingered over NBC’s TCA panel for Blindspot, which is adding Panjabi as a new cast member for Season 2. Panjabi, who won an Emmy for her role as the intrepid, high-boots-loving investigator Kalinda on the CBS legal drama, was asked about the circumstances surrounding her exit, including the now-infamous final “joint” scene between Panjabi and star Julianna Margulies, reportedly stitched together with the help of greenscreen effects.
“I loved playing the role of Kalinda. I had such a great time. It’s something that’s very special to me,” Panjabi said before adding, “I’m so thrilled to be on another show.”
She then returned to the sensitive subject. “In terms of anything that happened on The Good Wife, I think it’s only respectful to let it stay on The Good Wife. It was time for me for many reasons to unzip the boots and step into another show. But I can tell you, for those of you who miss the boots, I do wear a pair of knee-high boots on Blindspot.”
On Blindspot, Panjabi plays the head of a secret division of the NSA that has been tracking the Jane Doe case from afar.
“I always love doing things that push me out of my comfort zone,” Panjabi said when asked why she took the role. Her first reaction? “Action-based TV show, it would be terrifying to do that.” And that’s why she took the job.
Panjabi described her character as “tough, tenacious, unpredictable.”
