Mackie joins John Boyega, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole and Jack Reynor in a drama framed around the 1967 Detroit race riots that devastated the city over five summer days. For Mackie, this marks a re-team with Bigelow and Boal from the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. Production is just getting underway on a film that explores the systemic racism in urban Detroit and it is being targeted for a 2017 release date for the 50th anniversary of the riots.
Bigelow and Boal are producing with Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman. Colin Wilson and Greg Shapiro are exec producing.
Mackie will play a returning Vietnam vet who figures prominently in the flashpoint drama. He will perform the role before reprising his Falcon role for two sequels to The Avengers, directed by Captain America: Civil War helmers Joe and Anthony Russo. Mackie also has a date to play Johnnie Cochran in the Justin Chadwick-directed Signal Hill. He’s repped by UTA and Inspire Entertainment.
