Mondays this summer are turning into a close horse race between NBC and ABC with the two nets in a dead heat last night. With both getting a 1.5/6 rating among adults 18-49, the overall win goes to the all originals Disney owned net because of a slight viewership lead of 5.54 million to the Comcast owned net’s 5.29 million.
Even though it was down a tenth in the demo from its last original of June 27, ABC had the highest rated and most watched (6.75m) show of the night with The Bachelorette (1.9/7). Lead-out Mistresses (0.8/3) was up 100% from its July 4 low to return to approximate season averages demowise.
Up was not a term to use for So You Think You Can Dance: Next Generation (0.7/3). Facing unscripted competition on ABC and NBC as usual, the Fox show stumbled 22%. That demo fall put SYTYCD even with a series low among the key demo. With 2.85 million watching, SYTYCD also fell to its 5th lowest viewership in its thirteen-season history. The CW was all repeats and CBS wasn’t really in the ratings race last night with its only original once again being BrainDead (0.4/2). The newbie from The Good Wife creators was down 20% for the House of Moonves from its last original of two-weeks ago.
Speaking of a ratings race, there were also a lot of eyeballs on the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby on ESPN last night. The event, where Giancarlo Stanton defeated defending champ Todd Frazier, topped cable for the sports giant with a 4.0 overnight rating.
NBC had a half and half night with a new American Ninja Warrior (1.7/7) and a repeat of Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge (1.1/4). The 8 – 10 PM former took an 11% dip from its 9 -11 PM June 27 show while the encore latter was up 22% from its last original of July 7, a Thursday.
