In the wake of Lionsgate dating the Liam Neeson thriller The Commuter today for Oct. 13, 2017, the distributor also scheduled the upcoming Summit Entertainment action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard from director Patrick Hughes for August 18, 2017, and a new untitled Saw movie for October 27, 2017.
Hitman’s Bodyguard stars Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds as the world’s top protection agent who gets a new client — a hitman who is his former foe (Samuel L. Jackson). The duo team up and have 24 hours to get the Hague to take down a murderous dictator (Gary Oldman). Salma Hayek and Elodie Yung also star. Hitman’s Bodyguard will square off with Sony/Screen Gems’ reboot of Flatliners on its opening weekend.
The next Saw feature will be co-directed by Michael and Peter Spierig. This version is thus far the only wide release to be dated on the weekend prior to Halloween. However, Saw will arrive the weekend after Universal’s Insidious: Chapter 4 and Warner Bros.’ Gerard Butler sci-fi movie Geostorm hit the screen.
