Peter Scolari, who plays Lena Dunham’s father Tad on HBO’s Girls, has been tapped as the new nominee for the Emmy Awards’ Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category. He replaces Peter MacNicol, who was originally nominated for his role on HBO’s Veep last week but was disqualified yesterday when the TV Academy discovered he had appeared in more than 50% of the show’s 10 episodes. That’s too much to be eligible as a “guest” actor, TV Academy rules say.
The category includes Tracy Morgan and Larry David — both for hosting Saturday Night Live — Bob Newhart for The Big Bang Theory, Bradley Whitford for Transparent and MacNicol’s fellow Veep guest star Martin Mull.
And now Scolari, who has played Tad Horvath for the series’ entire run.
