NBC’s Night Shift grew 38% week to week, from a 0.8 demo rating to a 1.1, and by more than a million viewers overall (5.7M viewers vs. 4.5M) last night, delivering its most watched broadcast since March of 2015 when it followed an episode of The Voice. In the demo, last night’s S3 sixth episode was the doc drama’s best showing since its Jun 1 season debut. Night Shift dominated the 10 PM timeslot among broadcasters in every key measure. ABC’s comedy reruns Fresh Off the Boat and The Real O’Neals collectively clocked a 0.6 demo rating in the hour, as did CBS’s freshman drama American Gothic which drew its smallest numbers so far this summer.
Last night, Night Shift had followed an America’s Got Talent best-of audition recap episode, which produced a 1.6 demo rating at 8 PM and a 1.8 at 9 PM (and timeslot leading 7.7M viewers and 8.8M total viewers, respectively).
At 8 PM AGT‘s 1.6 demo rating trailed CBS’ Big Brother (1.9, 6.1M), but outstripped Fox’s Masterchef (1.2, 4.0M), as well as ABC’s repeats of comedies The Middle (0.8, 3.9M) and The Goldbergs (0.8, 3.1M), and CW’s Arrow redux (0.2, 924K).
At 9 PM, AGT came in a lap ahead of more ABC comedy repeats, CBS’s Criminal Minds rerun and Fox’s Wayward Pines – all of which posted a 0.8 demo rating. Criminal Minds averaged 3.8M viewers, ABC’s Modern Family (3.2M) and Black-ish (2.9M) copped a collective 3.1M in the hour, and Fox’s Wayward Pines bagged 2.4M total viewers which, like its demo rating, was up a notch from last week’s showing.
NBC took the night with a 1.5 demo rating and 7.4M viewers overall. CBS followed with 1.1 rating and 4.3M viewers. Fox logged a 1.0 rating and 3.2M viewers, while ABC came in at 0.7 and 2.9M viewers. CW delivered a 0.2 rating and 867K viewers.
