On one level, Mr. Robot is all about the intersection of the tangible and digital worlds and that’s certainly reflected in its ratings. With Live + 3 numbers now in, the Season 2 debut of the multiple Emmy nominated USA Network hacktivist drama saw DVR fueled triple digit lifts from its viewership low in Live + Same Day results.
While down 21% from the L+3 viewership of its Season 1 opener of June 24 last year, the extended July 13 S2 premiere had a 116% viewership jump and a 119% 18-49 surge over its L+SD numbers. Much stronger than the L+3 upticks of last season, that translates into 2.25 million total viewers and 1.208 million in the key demo for the Sam Esmail created Mr. Robot.
Interestingly, the show saw a 123% increase in its 18-34 numbers from the L+SD S2 debut ratings. That younger skew was also up the most from the S1 opener’s L+3 results with a 46% rise. Here’s another rub in the ratings ointment – only up for 3 hours via online and social media on July 10, the suddenly announced preview of the first part of the much marketed S2 premiere drew a strong 800,000 views.
Apples to not quite oranges, the S2 opener was steady in total viewers with the S1 finale of September – with a 4% dip.
