Annabelle director John Leonetti has been tapped to helm Wish Upon, a Broad Green horror thriller pic from the Black List script by Barbara Marshall. No cast has been set, but a fall production start is in the works.
The plot: When 16-year-old misfit Claire finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted, she never could have guessed that each wish would demand a deadly payment. Busted Shark Productions’ Sherryl Clark (Cloverfield) is producing.
Leonetti was cinematographer on The Conjuring and the first two Insidious movies before landing the directing gig on Annabelle, which made $256.9 million worldwide via Warner Bros and New Line. A sequel is in the works.
Broad Green’s recent releases include the Bryan Cranston starrer The Infiltrator and Nic Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon. It has been rethinking its structure, though, recently reducing staff as it only has two films planned to bow for the rest of the year: the Kate Winslet starring Dressmaker on September 23 and Billy Bob Thornton reprising his role in Bad Santa 2 on November 23.
“We are thrilled that John has come onboard to direct Wish Upon,” said Broad Green CEO Daniel Hammond. “His impeccable eye towards realism and talent for catching audiences off-guard will, without a doubt, make this film unforgettable.”
Leonetti is repped by CAA.
