Spike TV has set an August 1 airdate for the premiere of I Am JFK Jr, the latest in Derik Murray’s docu franchise that is getting its TV debut on the network. His stable of bio-docs includes I Am Evel Knievel, I Am Steve McQueen and I Am Bruce Lee. His most recent of the bunch, I Am Chris Farley, bowed last August on Spike to strong ratings.
Like Farley, JFK Jr will kick off with a limited theatrical release, beginning July 20 from Virgil Films. The docu will hit digital the day after its 9 PM Spike premiere followed by a DVD release August 16. It features interviews with John F. Kennedy Jr.’s friends ranging from Robert De Niro and Cindy Crawford to Mike Tyson and Larry Flynt, Christiane Amanpour, Chris Cuomo, Paul Begala, Ann Coulter, Grateful Dead songwriter John Perry Barlow and colleagues his George magazine among others.
Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak and Robert Pirooz produce, with onetime Kennedy chief of staff RoseMarie Terenzio and Spike’s Kevin Kay, Jon Slusser and Jaimee Kosanke executive producing.
