The book, written by Pulitzer-winning journalists Matt Apuzzo and Adam Goldman, examines the problems, lack of communication and failure between counterterrorism departments as law enforcement races to stop a terrorist from harming Americans. The two authors will collaborate with Maitland on the screenplay.
“Keith is master storyteller, and his balance of nuance, action and humanity is so heartful as evidenced by Tower,” said Killer Content CEO Adrienne Becker.
A festival favorite, Mailtand’s Tower is a documentary that chronicles the 1966 mass shooting at the University of Texas campus in Austin from a bell tower that overlooked the campus. The sniper killed 16 people and injured dozens more. The film, which combines animation with interviews from victims and survivors, received the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for Documentary Feature at SXSW in March.
Killer Impact, one of the divisions of Killer Content (along with Killer Films), is producing a nationwide college tour for Tower, where the film will be streamed live for audiences, with Maitland leading an on-campus discussions. The film will open nationwide in select theaters in mid-October via Kino Lorber.
The writers repped themselves in the deal with Killer Content. Stuart Rich handled the negotiations on behalf of Killer Content.
