The Democratic National Convention kicked off with a star-studded Day 1 lineup that included First Lady Michelle Obama, Sarah Silverman, Eva Longoria, Al Franken, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Paul Simon. The big names drew a combined 2.5 non-time-adjusted fast national rating among adults 18-49 from 10 PM-11 PM on ABC, NBC and CBS and 10.54 million viewers. That currently runs a tad ahead of RNC’s first day (2.3, 10.1 million). The ratings race is close and will be decided in the finals when cable numbers also are factored in.
Fueled by The Bachelorette, ABC (1.0) tied NBC (1.0) in DNC coverage, followed by CBS (0.5). ABC and NBC benefitted from original lead-ins, The Bachelorette (1.9, even with last week) and American Ninja Warrior (1.6, down a tenth). The other original offering last night was So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation (0.7) on Fox, which also was on par with last Monday.
UPDATE: In the finals, NBC’s DNC coverage climbed to a 1.1 rating, while ABC’s slipped to a 0.9 and CBS’ inched up to a 0.6. The three nets together drew a 2.6, up +.3 from last Monday’s RNC coverage.
