Emmy winning executive producer/showrunner BJ Levin has been named SVP Development at Wilshire Studios, the unscripted division of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. In his new position, Levin will oversee all development and sales of original, non-scripted programming for the studio and report to Dawn Olmstead, EVP Development, Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios.
Levin most recently served as executive producer and showrunner for HBO’s documentary series Vice, which earned eight Emmy nominations during its first four seasons, winning in 2014 for best Outstanding Informational Series or Special. Previously, Levin served as director, producer, showrunner and executive producer for several networks including A&E, BBC, Bravo, Discovery, Food Network, HBO, National Geographic, TLC, and Vice TV. At MTV, he was producer on the Emmy-winning series Made.
“BJ’s background in bold and daring non-scripted television is what drew us to him,” said Olmstead. “He has been at the forefront of groundbreaking, intelligent docuseries and will be a great asset as we head into that direction at Wilshire.”
“I’m incredibly excited to join the Wilshire Studios team and to begin building an ambitious slate of new programming,” said Levin.
Wilshire Studios produces E!’s signature Live From The Red Carpet series. Other credits include reality series Giuliana And Bill and Ice Loves Coco, and docu-series True Hollywood Story. Wilshire Studios has also produced original series and specials such as Women We Love for Esquire Network and The Nerdist for BBC America, as well as 300 episodes of the dating game show Baggage for GSN.
