EXCLUSIVE: Amblin Entertainment has closed a deal for The Fall, a Pete Bridges spec script that fits Amblin’s mandate to get back to the high-concept thrill rides grounded by family elements that once were big business for Steven Spielberg’s company. The spec went out before the holiday, and Amblin started negotiations pre-July 4 weekend. The deal just closed.
In the midst of an alien invasion, a freshly divorced couple must survive a dangerous real-time journey on foot from downtown Atlanta to the suburbs, where their young children are home alone. Adam Kolbrenner will produce and Robyn Meisinger will be exec producer for Madhouse Entertainment, the company behind Prisoners that last year sold to DreamWorks a ghost story pitch from Carter Blanchard.
Bridges is an Australian scribe who was discovered through the online screenwriting site Virtual Pitch Fest and whose first spec Resurface made the Black List, with Todd Garner’s Broken Road producing. That script is a survival story in the vein of The Martian, set underwater at the bottom of Mariana Trench. The scribe is repped by Verve, Madhouse and attorney Kim Stenton.
