Former Relativity Studios president Tucker Tooley is expanding into television at his monied shingle Tooley Productions. The indie production company has optioned Neil Strauss’ non-fiction book Emergency: This Book Will Save Your Life to develop it as a drama television series with comedic bent.
In Emergency, best-selling journalist and author Strauss (The Game), concerned about the state of the world, moved his family offshore and remade himself as a survivalist. He became a lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying guy. This put him in a spiral of paranoid fantasies and in proximity of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, billionaire gun nuts and a number of once-normal people whose doubts about the establishment prompted them to move their families into a ridiculous life path.
Tooley, CEO of Tooley Productions, and Strauss will executive produce. Search is underway for writer to pen the adaptation.
A couple of months after he left Relativity after an 8-year stint, Tooley set up the first feature for Tooley Prods., with the company coming on board to co-finance 6 Below, starring Josh Hartnett.
Strauss is repped by CAA, manager Oren Segal and attorney Steve Burkow.
