EXCLUSIVE: Amblin has set Blaise Hemingway to adapt the John Connolly novel The Gates, and brought on Michael De Luca to produce the potential franchise through his Michael De Luca Productions banner. The Gates is the first of a middle grade science fiction novel trilogy that Amblin acquired last fall. The first installment follows an 11-year-old boy named Samuel Johnson and an outcast demon, who together must stop hell on Earth after escaped energy from the Hadron Collider pokes a hole in the proverbial time-space continuum. The novel series has two more volumes, The Infernals and The Creeps.
UTA-repped Hemingway is currently writing the animated feature Playmobil for Open Road and director Lino DiSalvo. De Luca productions exec Lucy Kitada will be exec producer. Moneyball’s De Luca is producing the second and third installments of the Fifty Shades Of Grey franchise for Universal.
