It was The Bachelorette (2.0/7) vs. the Stanley Cup Final (1.3/5) for the second Monday in a row – and, in early numbers, the search for love trounced the search for hockey glory.
Game 4 of the battle between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks saw the former win 3-1 but NBC and the NHL take a drop of a tenth from the final numbers of Game 1 on May 30. Like last week, which actually went up two tenths for the fast affiliates, there will likely be adjustments in the hockey ratings. Perhaps indicating how that could all turn out, In metered market results, last night’s game got a 3.1 – which is a 15% jump over the Memorial Day MM ratings for Game 1.
The Penguins had their win but among the Big 4 Monday was ABC’s night with a 1.7/6 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.69 million watching. As it was last week, The Bachelorette was the top rated and most watched (6.80 million) show of the night – but by a much greater margin. On the same night as the Season 2 debut of scathing reality satire UnReal, the ABC romance show saw a 25% leap in the key demo over its Memorial Day performance. ABC scored further with Mistresses (0.9/3) rising 29% over its latest season debut on May 30.
CBS was all much watched encores on Monday but Fox had So You Think You Can Dance (1.0/4) and Houdini & Doyle (0.6/2), which were even and up a tenth from last week respectively. On the CW, Reign (0.3/1) and a 9 PM Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.4/2) were the same as their last originals of May 23.
