SK Global, the joint venture between Ivanhoe Pictures and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, has joined the team for My Other Home. It will co-finance and co-produce the Chinese-language feature film about NBA star-turned-China hoops star Stephon Marbury, who will play himself. China’s Hairun Pictures is also producing the film, which will focus on Marbury’s transition from Team USA point guard to playing pro basketball in China. He is a superstar there, leading the Beijing Ducks to three CBA championships. The film has been shooting in Beijing and moves to New York at the end of June. Chinese director Larry Yang (Mountain Cry) wrote the pic and is directing.
Ivanhoe has partnered with Chinese production company and main investor Hairun, and Chinese co-investors Beijing Forbidden City Film Co and Desen International Media. The film has applied for Chinese-U.S. co-production status. Victoria Hon is producing for Hairun, and the pic will also feature former NBA stars Allen Iverson and Baron Davis.
Ivanhoe is coming off The Wailing, a South Korean co-production with Fox International that has grossed around $50 million.
