Revolution Studios has completed a five-picture acquisition from Dallas-based Tango Films, nabbing worldwide rights to GK Films-produced Hugo, The Tourist, Edge of Darkness, The Rum Diary and The Young Victoria. The deal follows Revolution’s acquisition late last year of the eight-title Cold Spring Pictures catalog, raising its library to 126 films.
Revolution says the latest acquisition strengthens its catalog of major motion pictures. “We are extremely pleased to have made this deal, which includes titles produced by Graham King’s GK Films,” said Revolution COO Scott Hemming. “In this competitive market, we are very fortunate to have the relationships that enable us to acquire such high profile quality films. This mix of prestige titles and mainstream hits, perfectly complements Revolution’s existing library and fits into our ongoing strategy of acquiring films with significant and enduring commercial value.”
Hugo (2011) was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield and Chloë Grace Moretz. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist (2010) toplines Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, and Martin Campbell’s Edge of Darkness (2010) stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone. Depp also stars in Bruce Robinson’s 2011 drama The Rum Diary, and Emily Blunt leads 2009’s The Young Victoria, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.
Revolution Studios was represented in the deal by O’Melveny & Myers and Tango Films by Irell & Manella LLP in the transaction.
