CSI: Cyber and Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek has joined upcoming Sky 1 family comedy Carters Get Rich. From Roughcut TV, the six-part half-hour series centers on a normal family as they try to hold onto their rags in the face of corrupting riches. It’s due to premiere this fall. Roughcut’s Ash Atalla (The Office) and Alex Smith are exec producing. The series is written by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis.
The story follows 11 year old Harry Carter who creates Honc, an app for geeky kids like him who don’t know how to talk to girls. When Honc becomes the next big social networking success, it’s bought for £10M by Van Der Beek’s American billionaire, Trent Zebrisky. The sitcom looks at how the family copes with a life-changing experience — and the posh advisor that Zebrisky installs to guide them.

Rhashan Stone (Agatha Raisin), Kerry Godliman (Derek)¸ John Finnemore (Miranda), Rhianna Merralls (Camping) and newcomer Rio Chambers also star.
Van Der Beek, who’s coming off CBS’ CSI: Cyber, is the latest in a string of Hollywood actors to join British comedy series. Andy Samberg, then Taylor Lautner have starred on the BBC’s Cuckoo and Courtney Cox is developing Truthing at ITV.
Roughcut’s credits include Cuckoo and Comedy Central’s I Live With Models. The company recently produced a Sarah Silverman pilot for HBO and a U.S. remake of Cuckoo for NBC, and has a two-year first-look deal with HBO.
