Hulu has acquired the exclusive subscription streaming rights to Roots, A+E Networks’ remake of the iconic TV miniseries.

Roots was the second major scripted production to come out of A+E Studios. The first, Lifetime series UnReal, also has Hulu as an SVOD home.

Barbarians Rising

As part of the deal with A+E Networks and Chute Ten Productions for Roots, Hulu also has picked up SVOD rights to the British miniseries War and Peace, which is distributed in the US by A+E Networks, as well as eight-part docu-drama Barbarians Rising.

“We’re so proud to welcome such a culturally important and highly-rated series as Roots to Hulu,” said Craig Erwich, SVP, Head of Content, Hulu.

All episodes of the eight-hour event series will become available to stream exclusively to Hulu subscribers this fall.

Barbarians Rising, which premiered on History on June 6, tells the story of the rise and fall of the Roman Empire from the perspective of the barbarian leaders who brought it down. October Films produces.

War and Peace, which stars Paul Dano and Lily James, will become available to stream on Hulu this summer.
