Nominations for the 74th Golden Globe Awards will be revealed on Monday, December 12, again in the wee hours, ahead of the annual awards show January 8 live on NBC live on both coasts from the Beverly Hilton. Organizer the Hollywood Foreign Press Association set the date as it unveiled its full timetable this morning. The deadline for submitting films and TV show is Monday, October 31.
In April, when the HFPA announced the 2017 show date, it also revealed rules changes regarding eligibility, among them stronger guidelines to distinguish between comedy and drama following this past year’s kerfuffle with the sci-fi drama The Martian nominated for (and winning) for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy. It also has tweaked rules on Globes campaigning and advertising to prevent conflicts of interest for its voting membership.
Last’s year’s Golden Globes which featured the return of Ricky Gervais as host, drew 18.5 million total viewers and a 5.5 rating in the 18-49 demo, down slightly from the year before.
