Condola Rashad, whose shimmering stage performances in Ruined, Stick Fly, Romeo and Juliet and The Trip To Bountiful made the daughter of Phylicia Rashad one of the most sought-after young actors in the business, has just wrapped Gotham filming of Bikini for producers Anja Wedell and Munire Armstrong. Helmed by Oscar nominee Milcho Manchevski, Bikini tells the story of a documentary filmmaker and his girlfriend who take a charismatic but troubled woman (the title role, played by Rashad) into their home, turning their lives upside down.
Manchevski also wrote the script, based on his story, together with W. P. Rosenthal. Czar Film, Germany, is spearheading production in association with Milkman Productions in New York and YN Films in Canada. His 1994 film, Before the Rain, won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, FIPRESCI and Independent Spirit awards, and was an Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. He has also directed HBO’s The Wire and won an MTV Award.
Rashad pays Kate Sacher in Showtime’s Billions and can be seen in Jodie Foster’s Money Monster, with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. She recently appeared in Joshua Marston’s film Complete Unknown with Michael Shannon and Rachel Weisz, which premiered at Sundance and was acquired by Amazon Studios.
Bikini also stars Will Janowitz (HBO’s The Night Of), Sarah Goldberg (HBO’s upcoming series Barry directed by Bill Hader) and newcomer Sathya Sridharan.
