ESPN has locked up its longtime lead NBA play-by-play commentator Mike Breen to a long-term deal, the network said today, just as he preps for his record 11th season calling the NBA Finals. The championship series pitting defending champ Golden State and Cleveland tips off tomorrow with Game 1 at 9 PM ET on ABC.
Breen joined ESPN in 2003 and began calling the NBA Finals in 2006. As part of the new deal, he will continue to serve as the play-caller for the NBA Finals, the conference finals on ESPN, plus a package of NBA regular-season games that includes NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC and playoff games.
Breen is amidst his seventh year working alongside analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson and courtside reporter Doris Burke, making the foursome the longest-tenured NBA Finals TV broadcast team.
In April, ESPN’s No. 2 NBA announcer Mike Tirico exited to join NBC.
