EXCLUSIVE: Erin Moriarty, who played Woody Harrelson’s troubled teenage daughter on the award-winning HBO drama True Detective, and Danika Yarosh, who next will be seen opposite Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, have been cast in LD Entertainment’s inspirational true story Live Like Line.
The film chronicles Iowa City’s West High School girls volleyball team and its improbable run to the state championship under the guidance of their tough-love coach Kathy Bresnahan (Helen Hunt). After the death of their star player Caroline “Line” Found (Yarosh), Kelly (Moriarty) must move past the loss of her best friend and fill Caroline’s role as team captain and playmaker. Sean McNamara is directing the film with a script by David Aaron Cohen (Friday Night Lights) and revisions by Elissa Matsueda (Spare Parts).

LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell (Jackie), Pete Shilaimon (Anthropoid) and Scott Holroyd (Risen) will be producing alongside Apex Entertainment’s, Mark Ciardi (McFarland USA) and Campbell McInnes (Fallen). LD Entertainment’s Jennifer Monroe is executive producing.
“We are thrilled to have both Erin and Danika on board to portray this resilient team of female athletes,” said Liddell. “These young women truly have what it takes to help us tell this story of hope and optimism overcoming tragedy.”
LD is fully financing, and and the film is greenlit for an early August start in Vancouver.
Moriarty is a big up-and-comer, having landed the role opposite Vince Vaughn in 20th Century Fox’s comedy The Watch and then starred in the Sundance Film Festival indie feature The Kings Of Summer directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, opposite Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias and Nick Robinson, and comedy veterans Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. She was seen in this year’s new hit show Jessica Jones for Netflix and Marvel Studios and on August 26 will be seen as the lead in Lionsgate feature film Blood Father opposite Mel Gibson, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this past May.
Her next outing is in Captain Fantastic opposite Viggo Mortensen which will be released in theaters July 8.
Yarosh will next be seen in the Ed Zwick-directed Jack Reacher installment via Paramount on October 28. She was just in the NBC series Heroes: Reborn. She also had a recurring role on both Showtime’s Shameless opposite William H. Macy and Emmy Possum as well as Law & Order: SVU. She is also a dancer who won a coveted supporting role in the Tony-winning Broadway hit Billy Elliot: The Musical.
Moriarty is repped by CAA, 3Arts Enterainment and Michael Mahan (Peikoff Mahan). Yarosh is repped by Susan and Cameron Curtis at Curtis Talent Management and by Paradigm.
