The Jonas Cuaron thriller, which is closing the Los Angeles Film Festival tonight, will open on Oct. 14 in limited venues. STX Entertainment acquired Desierto out of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Pic follows a group of Mexicans who are crossing the border and run up against a gun-toting racist who has taken border patrol into his own hands. Gael Garcia Bernal, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Alondra Hidalgo star. Between its release in Mexico and France, Desierto has made close to $3M. Cuaron wrote the screenplay with Mateo Garcia. Jonas is also producing with Alfonso Cuaron, Carlos Cuaron, Alex Garcia and Charles Gillibert.
