EXCLUSIVE: Ashleigh Murray and Rachel Crow have been cast in the title roles of Netflix’s upcoming original film Deidra & Laney Rob a Train. Rounding out the cast are David Sullivan, Tim Blake Nelson, Danielle Nicolet, Sasheer Zamata and Arturo Castro.
Deidra & Laney tells the tale of two teenage girls — Murray plays Deidra, Crow plays Laney — who turn to train-robbing after their moms are sent to prison. Despite the Jesse James-era occupation, the film is set in the present day, with Netflix drawing comparisons to Raising Arizona. The pic is written by Shelby Farrell, with Sydney Freeland (Drunktown’s Finest) directing, and Susan Cartsonis (The DUFF) and Nick Moceri (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) producing.
Murray also will be seen in the upcoming CW drama Riverdale, while Crow is perhaps best known for her role in Invisible Sister. Sullivan is a series regular on Netflix’s Will Arnett starrer Flaked. Zamata is a castmember on Saturday Night Live. Nicolet, repped by Innovative Artists and LINK Entertainment, is on the big screen now as Kevin Hart’s wife in Central Intelligence.
Deidra & Laney Rob a Train will be available globally in 2017.
