Hulu has opted not to renew original comedy series Deadbeat for a fourth season. Because of the nature of the streaming service, cancellation does not mean going into oblivion as it does on a traditional network. The produced three seasons of Deadbeat will remain available on Hulu for years to come.
The supernatural comedy starring Tyler Labine was a leftover from the previous Hulu regime and Hulu’s early days of an original programming player with lower-budget comedy series.
Deadbeat was a breakout hit when it debuted in April 2014. The show became possible when Lionsgate TV came on board after Hulu had been trying to get a studio to produce the script by Cody Heller and Brett Konner, from Plan B and Dakota Pictures.
In Deadbeat, Labine stars as Kevin Pacalioglu, a hapless but gifted medium who will go to any lengths to help New York’s ghosts settle their unfinished business. Kal Penn, Brandon T. Jackson, Cat Deeley and Lucy DeVito co-starred.
Showrunner Dan Lagana executive produced with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg from Plan B Entertainment.
Labine, who adds a second cult supernatural comedy to his resume in addition to Reaper, announced the cancellation on Twitter in response to a fan question.
Unfortunately it seems that #DeadbeatOnHulu is going into its light. I’m super bummed and I will miss Pac dearly:( https://t.co/2XIS9Nnbdf
