Imax Corp and AMC Theatres said today they are expanding their joint revenue sharing arrangement, with the companies planning to add 25 IMAX at AMC theaters in the U.S. by the end of 2019. The additions will bring the total commitment to 185 theaters for the pair. The majority of locations will open within the next two years at existing as well as newly built AMC locations. The cities include New York, Los Angeles and Houston in addition to smaller-tier markets.

“Box office returns continue to demonstrate that our guests enjoy the premium experience our Imax theatres offer, and we are tremendously excited to be bringing this experience to even more guests and new markets over the next couple of years,” AMC president and CEO Adam Aron said in announcing the deal. “We are committed to growing IMAX at AMC and expect to remain Imax’s largest U.S. partner for many, many years to come.”

In May, Imax signed a deal with Guangzhou JinYi Media Corp, one of the largest exhibitors in China, to open 40 more theaters in the country in another full revenue-share agreement.

AMC operates 385 theaters and 5300 screens.
