
Goosebumps star Dylan Minnette and Australian newcomer Katherine Langford will lead the young cast of Netflix‘s series 13 Reasons Why, from producer Selena Gomez, writer Brian Yorkey, director Tom McCarthy, Anonymous Content and Paramount TV.
Also cast in the 13-episode series, based on the 2007 New York Times bestselling YA book by Jay Asher. are Brandon Flynn, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe (Ray Donovan), Justin Prentice (Malibu Country), Devin Druid, Miles Heizer (Parenthood) and Ross Butler.

Yorkey created and wrote the TV series adaptation, which follows a boy named Clay (Minnette) through an emotional night when he receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his late classmate and crush Hannah (Langford), after she recently committed suicide. On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to 12 peers how they each played a role in her death, by giving 13 reasons explaining why she took her life.

Flynn plays Justin, a star basketball player with a star ego. Navarro plays Tony, a loner who’ll always stand up for what’s right. Boe plays Jessica, Hannah’s friend until a vicious falling-out. Prentice is Bryce, a frat-boy-in-training with preppy good looks. Druid is Tyler, s photographer with a wandering lens. Heizer is Alex, introspective, a little arty, and deeply feeling. Butler plays Zach.
McCarthy and Gomez executive produce alongside Yorkey, Diana Son and Anonymous Content’s Joy Gorman, Michael Sugar and Steve Golin, as well as Mandy Teefey and Kristel Laiblin. Filming on the series began this week.
Minnette’s series credits include Scandal, Lost, Awake and Saving Grace.

Langford comes from Perth, Australia. Earlier this year, she was accepted into Australia’s top drama school, WAAPA, but opted not to enroll when she landed a screen test for TNT’s pilot Will in her first U.S. audition. While she did not get the part, her taped audition for 13 Reasons Why landed her her first major role.Langford is repped by Silver Lining Entertainment and Independent Management in Australia.
