EXCLUSIVE: WME has signed Brazilian writer-director Caito Ortiz, who recently won the Visions Audience Award at SXSW for his feature Jules And Dolores. The film is a crime caper, based on a true story of the 1983 heist of the World Cup in Rio De Janeiro. Netflix has acquired the film and will distribute globally later this year.
Ortiz’ previous work includes the film Estacao Liberdade and the documentary Motoboys: Vida Loca, which garnered him the Audience Award at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival in 2003. His TV series fdp was a co-production between HBO and Prodigo.
Ortiz, who has shown himself to be equally adept shifting between fiction and non-fiction stories, was born in Rio de Janeiro and studied film at New York University. He will continue to be repped by Adam Marshall at Management 360.
