Independent production and distribution company Covert Media has inked a two-year, first look co-financing and co-production deal with Knight and Day and XXX producer Todd Garner and his Broken Road Productions label. Garner and Covert Media CEO, Paul Hanson made the announcement today.
Deal calls for two to four theatrical films per year covering a wide array of genres and budgets with Covert Media handling worldwide distribution rights. Covert and Broken Road are currently assembling several titles to present to buyers in Toronto with the first two to be announced in the near future. The Broken Road team includes Garner, Sean Robins and Jeremy Stein.
“This is a match made in heaven for me and Broken Road,” said Garner in a statement. “Paul and the team at Covert are consummate professionals with great appreciation for what is working in the worldwide marketplace today. The flexibility of independent filmmaking and financing allow us to be more entrepreneurial in the ever changing feature film landscape. Our creative ambitions can become a reality,” he continued.

The first look deal was negotiated by Covert’s Chet Devaskar, EVP of Legal and Business Affairs with Jacob A. Bloom and Patrick Knapp of Bloom, Hergott, Diemer, Rosenthal, Laviolette, Feldman, Schenkman & Goodman negotiating on behalf of Todd Garner and Broken Road Productions.
Garner, a former Walt Disney Studios/Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures co-president of production and Revolution Studios partner, has credits on 100-plus movies including Into the Storm, the Paul Blart: Mall Cop franchise, Black Hawk Down, Anger Management, 13 Going on 30 as either producer or executive producer. In 2005, Garner founded Broken Road Productions.
