As the broadcast networks are preparing to make the bulk of their new series orders this week, there a handful of pilots that already are making “if-come” deals with writers that will come into effect in the event a pilot is picked to series. Among them is Kevin Williamson’s Time After Time, inspired by Karl Alexander’s 1979 novel. The time-travel drama has been gaining momentum at ABC, where it is considered a very strong contender, along with Conviction, which I hear also is making if-come deals, Notorious and Marvel’s Most Wanted, with The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez also said to be prepping if-come orders and Shondaland’s Still Star-Crossed heating up.
Time After Time is one of two Warner Bros TV pilots that I hear have made if-come deals, along with drama Lethal Weapon, which also has been heating up at Fox, along with The Exorcist, A.P.B. and Pitch. (UPDATE: Lethal Weapon, The Exorcist, A.P.B. and Pitch all were picked up to series by Fox.)
The other pilot that has been making if-come deals is Dan Fogelman’s This Is Us at NBC, with another NBC drama, time-travel Timeless, about to start making deals with potential writers.
On the comedy side, ABC’s Downward Dog has had a writers room going. It is considered a hot prospect at the network, possibly for a shorter order, alongside Speechless and The Second Fattest Wife of Westport.
