Joe and Anthony Russo – the directors of this weekend’s record-breaking boxoffice champ Captain America: Civil War — are making a return to television with a comedy series project in development at Showtime. The Russo brothers are set to executive produce the untitled half-hour, written/executive produced by comedian Moshe Kasher (Zoolander 2) and writer/actor Zach Cregger (Miss March).

Showtime LogoThe project focuses on a larcenous family of pot dealers whose world is turned upside down when their illegal enterprise suddenly becomes legal in their home state. As the family struggles to adapt to the strange new world of legitimate business, they are forced to depend upon the business acumen of their son, whose straight and narrow leanings have always made him a “black sheep” in this clan of reprobates.

Mike Larocca (Spy), president of film and television for Russo’s Getaway Productions banner, will serve as a producer.

Moshe KasherThe Russo brothers, who got noticed with the 2002 feature Welcome to Collinwood, built a career in television, winning an Emmy for directing the pilot for the critically acclaimed comedy series Arrested Development. Their series Zach Cregger 2producing-directing credits also  include Happy Endings and Community. The Russos made a big return to features with the 2014 tentpole Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are not coming back to television full-time anytime soon — in addition to their Showtime series project, they have two upcoming franchise features in the hopper, Avengers: Infinity War – Part I and II.

Kasher previously developed an autobiographical dark half-hour comedy series at Showtime three years ago. In addition to writing on Zoolander 2, he has also served as a co-executive producer and writer on the comedy series Another Period, and as a staff writer on The New Normal. Cregger, a founding member and writer of New York comedy troupe The Whites Kids U’Know, was a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series Guys With Kids, and will next be seen as the lead in TBS’s upcoming series Wrecked.

The Russo brothers are repped by WME. Kasher is repped by WME, 3Arts Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman. Cregger is repped by CAA.
