Richard Gere will star in Jon Avnet’s Three Christs with Highland Film Group financing and selling international rights. CAA will rep domestic rights. Three Christs is based on a biographical novel by Milton Rokeach about a doctor treating three paranoid schizophrenic patients at the Ypsilanti State Hospital in Michigan, each of whom believed they were Jesus Christ. The adaptation was written by Eric Nazarian and Avnet, who also directs. Avnet and Dr. Aaron Stern will produce under his Brooklyn Films banner alongside Highland’s Arianne Frasier and Delphine Perrier, and Molly Hassell (Terminal).
Gere can next be seen in Oren Moverman’s family drama The Dinner alongside Steve Coogan, Chloë Sevigny, Rebecca Hall, and Laura Linney. Avnet’s directing credits include Fried Green Tomatoes and Righteous Kill with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Three Christs marks Gere and Avnet’s second collaboration following MGM’s Red Corner in 1997.
Gere is repped by WME and Avnet by CAA.
