Epic Pictures is launching international sales at the upcoming Cannes market for Redcon-1, an apocalyptic thriller from writer-director-producer Chee Keong Cheung (Bodyguard: A New Beginning). Set in the aftermath of a viral outbreak that sees half of Britain quarantined, the pic follows a squad of eight Special Forces soldiers sent on a suicide mission to rescue a scientist who might be the only hope for the survival of mankind. Filmed on location in the UK, Redcon-1 is Chee’s third feature and is executive produced by Carlos Gallardo (Desperado, El Mariachi, Grindhouse) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman. Gallardo also stars, alongside Oris Erhuero, Akira Koieyama, former WWE/TNA wrestler Katarina Leigh Waters, Mark Strange, Joshua Dickinson, Michael Sheehan and Martyn Ford. Strange also served as co-writer and co-producer.
Double Dutch International has sealed a deal to sell overseas distribution rights on the animated feature Spark, from the creators of 2014’s The Nut Job. Starring Jessica Biel, Hilary Swank, Patrick Stewart, and Susan Sarandon, the space opera pic is set on a world conquered more than a decade ago by a power-mad general who now is tearing it to pieces. Spark and his friends, Chunk and Vix, team up to stop the general bent on universal domination. It’s written and directed by Aaron Woodley and produced by Redrover, ToonBox Entertainment and Gulfstream Pictures, alongside newcomer Shanghai Hoongman Technology. DDI will sell the pic at Cannes.
Artist View Entertainment has boarded world sales on Traplight Pictures’ next two films, Drowned and The Domicile. It will kick the projects off in Cannes. Drowned tells the story of a troubled young man who grows up to become a serial killer and cultural phenomenon on the streets of L.A. The Domicile follows a distraught playwright who attracts the wrath of his dead wife’s ghost when a dark secret from his past is revealed. Both are written and directed by Jared Cohn and executive produced by Gabriel Campisi. Together, they made Little Dead Rotting Hood and Wishing for a Dream, and they are partners in Traplight with Demetrius Stear. The company recently produced the upcoming The Horde in association with 313 Films and Razors Edge Productions, with foreign sales also handled by Artist View. The deal was negotiated for Traplight Pictures by Campisi and for Artist View Entertainment by Jones.
