
EXCLUSIVE: Studio 8 has pre-emptively acquired the rights to develop a feature from , a new short story from acclaimed sci-fi author Ken Liu. The story is about a team of assassins who are able to navigate between dimensions. It’s got stylish touches reminiscent of Interstellar and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Liu is a prolific short-story writer who has won the Nebula, Hugo and World Fantasy awards; his stories include Mono No Aware and The Paper Menagerie, and he wrote the Nebula-nominated fantasy novel The Grace of Kings. Studio 8’s Rishi Rajani brought the project in, and he and Chris Goldberg will shepherd it. Liu is represented by Angela Cheng Caplan at the Cheng Caplan Company along with Russell Galen at the Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency.
Studio 8, funded by the Chinese investment management firm Fosun Group and Sony Pictures, is in production with the Albert Hughes-directed Solutrean and is partnered on the Ang Lee-directed Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which will be released November 11.
