Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland are teaming for The Leisure Seeker, a road movie about a retired couple who embark on an adventure in a Winnebago. The project, based on a novel by Michael Zadoorian, is being sold at Cannes by BAC Films. Italian filmmaker Paulo Virzi, whose Like Crazy is playing in Directors’ Fortnight this year, is helming. The film reunites Mirren and Sutherland, who played a couple in 1990’s Philip Borsos-directed China-set saga Bethune: The Making of a Hero.
Francesca Archibugi and Francesco Piccolo wrote the screenplay in collaboration with Stephen Amidon and Virzi. Fabrizio Donvito, Benedetto Habib, and Marco Cohen produce for Indiana Production, with Alessandro Mascheroni, Daniel Campos Pavoncelli and Dov Mamann serving as exec producers.
Rai Cinema is also producing along with David Grumbach and Mathieu Robine from BAC Films.
