It was another night of finales galore on the final Thursday of the season with a wedding, exits and a surprise return as Grey’s Anatomy (2.3/8) DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow (0.72) and The Blacklist (1.3/5) wrapped up their latest runs. Over on ESPN, Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavilers continued their post-season unbeaten streak. The team had an 108-89 win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 2 of the NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals that scored a 4.4 overnight rating for the sports giant – that’s up 7% from Game 1 and dipping 4% from Game 2 of last year when the Cavs faced Atlanta.
Back on the Big 4, even without an original The Big Bang Theory and just Mom (1.7/7) as its only final of the night, CBS took the top spots in both adults 18-49 and viewership with a 1.4/5 rating and 6.34 million viewers. For the House of Moonves, the Allison Janney and Anna Faris led comedy saw its third season ender down a tenth from last week and declining 15% from its Season 2 finale of April 30, 2015 – a night that had a new BBT leading the CBS lineup. A double does of The Odd Couple at 8:30 PM (1.5/6) and a special at 9:30 PM (1.4.5) was down 6% in the demo from its May 12 show for the former and 13%. The now cancelled Rush Hour (0.9/3) ended the night even with last week – which had seen the season finale of BBT.
It was all season finales on ABC with Grey’s closing out its 12th season and The Catch (0.8/3) ending its first run. The top rated show on the Big 4 last night, the long running Shondaland series was up 10% in the 18-49 demo, as well as up 4% in viewers to 8.1 million, over its May 12 show to score its best results in both categories since February 11. Additionally, in a rare move this year for a Big 4 finale, Grey’s actually was up, a little bit, over its Season 11 ender of May 14, 2015 – with a 5% rise. We could see more numbers later as Grey’s often sees adjustments. For the 2-hour Season 1 end of the renewed Catch, the other TGIT show is even with its early numbers of last week, which went up a tenth later on – so maybe that could happen here.
On the day of its Upfronts presentation in NYC, the CW said goodbye to both DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow and The 100 (0.5/2) for this season. The superteam-up show saw some characters fly off, but ratingswise its Season 1 finale was even with last week – which actually adjusted up a tenth in the final numbers. The post-apocalyptic The 100, which is back for a fourth season next year, was up both a tenth from its May 12 show and from its Wednesday night Season 2 finale on March 11, 2015. There were no finales on Fox on Thursday as Bones (0.8/3) and American Grit (0.6/2) stayed even with last week’s shows.
On NBC, the big ender was the Season 3 finale of The Blacklist. The James Spader led thriller show was even with last week and, continuing a trend we’ve seen this year, down 19% among the 18-49s from its Season 2 ender of May 14, 2015 which faced the premiere of Wayward Pines on Fox and the Scandal season finale in the 9 PM slot. Last night’s Blacklist certainly didn’t get any help from its lead-in with 8 PM reality show Strong (0.6/2) having another weak week and a decline of a tenth from it May 12 show. The now shuttered Game Of Silence (0.7/2) matched its result of last week among the demo but saw a third consecutive week of viewership growth with 3.33 million watching .
