Industry veteran Steve Bunnell is leaving Universal Theatrical Distribution after 14 months to join Regal Entertainment Group as SVP, chief content and programming Officer. He will join the company on June 14, based in the Woodland Hills office and maintaining an office at Regal corporate HQ in Knoxville, TN.
“With over 30 years in the industry, Steve will be a great asset to our leadership team at Regal,” said Greg Dunn, President and COO of Regal Entertainment Group. “His expertise and talent will be valuable as we build upon our success and drive growth and strong performance for the future.”
Bunnell joined Universal Theatrical Distribution as SVP and assistant general sales manager in March 2015, then took over as EVP and general sales manager in January when Mark Gaines retired after nearly four decades at the studio. Prior to that he served as the EVP Global Content Programming for Cinemark Theatres. He started as a Mann Theatres film buyer in 1981. In 1992, he served as the general sales manager for Samuel Goldwyn, before becoming the SVP and head film buyer at Loews Theatres in 1993, a role he held for 13 years. In 2006, Bunnell became the chairman of domestic distribution for The Weinstein Company before transitioning to Cinemark.
