Is Sara Ramirez leaving Grey’s Anatomy? Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on the ABC medical drama, sparked a social media frenzy after tweeting “That’s a wrap for Dr. #CallieTorres” and thanking viewers for “an enriching and unforgettable #rollercoaster ride.”
Giving her message a significance is the fact that Ramirez’s contract for Grey’s is up at the end of this season. Coincidentally (or not), Ramirez posted a similar tweet at the wrap of Season 1o, the last time her Grey’s deal was up for renewal. Back then, she ended up signing for two more years. It is unclear what she will do this time — leave or come back full or part-time — but if she has made a decision not to return, it would be news to most involved in the ongoing contract negotiations. ABC would not comment but from what I hear, there has been no final word yet on Ramirez’s status on the show for next season. That will likely come soon as we are getting closer to the upfronts.
Ramirez is one of several Grey’s cast members whose contracts are up, along with Justin Chambers, who had stated that he was coming back, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Kevin McKidd.
