EXCLUSIVE: Disney’s trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story snared close to 30M views in its first 29 hours. Breaking that down, the Gareth Edwards-directed prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV is currently logging 16.3M YouTube views (as of 10:15 am Friday) since its 4:52AM PST drop yesterday, and has logged another 13.2M on Facebook. Rogue One is clocking 800K views per hour, which is just 200K shy of what the November 2014 Star Wars: Force Awakens teaser was churning per hour, according to social media monitor RelishMix. That pace may quicken throughout today, particularly since the Rogue One Facebook trailer is on autoplay. Also on Facebook, the Rogue One trailer has close to 500K shares.
Similar to Force Awakens last December, Rogue One opens on Dec. 16, a week before Christmas. Force Awakens owns a number of box office records including highest three-day opening of $247.97M and top-grossing title ever at the U.S./Canada B.O. with $935.1M.
