EXCLUSIVE: Red Arrow Entertainment Group has made its latest investment in an indie production company with Mad Rabbit. The new shingle is a joint venture between Canadian director, writer and showrunner Kari Skogland, and Red Arrow Entertainment. Based in Toronto and Los Angeles, Mad Rabbit will produce high-end drama for the international market. Skogland, whose credits include House Of Cards, The Walking Dead, The Americans, Vikings, Boardwalk Empire and The Borgias, will lead the company as CEO.
The board of directors will be chaired by industry veteran Peter Sussman, who is former Entertainment Group CEO and co-controlling voting shareholder of Alliance Atlantis Communications, and more recently co-founder and Executive Chairman of film and television financier Aver Media for whom he now consults.
Development at Mad Rabbit will be led by LA-based Elsie Choi, a former exec for Bruce Willis, whose credits include Fifty Dead Men Walking. Skogland tells me there are already several projects percolating. She will write and direct some of the initial projects and also look to foster new voices.

Skogland adds that she has previously faced a “glass ceiling” as a woman in the features and television business but in the last few years, has “enjoyed being able to work in high-end drama with the best writers in the world. It’s a wonderful space to be in and now I can run with it.” The validation of a group like Red Arrow, she says, will also help open doors. Her editorial line will focus on being “a voice of diversity; there are wonderful contemporary and historical stories out there; exotic worlds we haven’t seen before.”
Jan David Frouman, Chairman & CEO of Red Arrow Entertainment Group, tells me the company was looking for “a smart way to have an affiliation with Canada” which they found in Skogland and Sussman. He adds, “Kari and Elsie, together with Peter, are exactly what we look for in partners: smart, absurdly talented and thoroughly likable in every way. We think that Mad Rabbit is a great opportunity for both our global scripted business, and our group as a whole.”
Red Arrow Entertainment holds a minority stake in Mad Rabbit and Red Arrow International will distribute Mad Rabbit’s projects internationally.
Mad Rabbit adds to Red Arrow’s roster of 16 production companies across seven countries.
