UK fans of crime saga Peaky Blinders will witness the return of the Shelby family to BBC Two on May 5 at 9PM, it’s been confirmed. In the first trailer for the much-anticipated Season 3 (above) we get a look at Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby being pulled into the glamorous and dangerous world of international intrigue in 1920s Britain. The risk to his organization and family will force him to question everything about his own ambitions and desires.
Episode 1 is set on Tommy’s wedding day, as has previously been confirmed by creator Steven Knight. I won’t offer any spoilers, although the installment I recently screened marks a riveting segment of what Knight has said he believes is a season that “will be the best yet.” Netflix airs Peaky in the States with a launch date pending.
Knight told me last summer that Tom Hardy would be back for at least part of the six-part Birmingham-set gangster drama, and indeed he is glimpsed in the new trailer as Alfie Solomons. Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, and Joe and Finn Cole are among other returning cast.
New this year is Paddy Considine as the representative of a force beyond anything Tommy has previously encountered. Dina Korzun and Jan Bijvoet are also joining as refugees from a foreign conflict who desperately need Tommy’s help.
Peaky Blinders is a Caryn Mandabach and Tiger Aspect Production for BBC Two; executive produced by Knight, Mandabach, Will Gould, Jamie Glazebrook, Frith Tiplady, Murphy and, for the BBC, Matthew Read.
The series with a rabid global fan base has been sold in 163 countries by Endemol Shine International.
