For the last couple of months it’s looked like it wasn’t going to happen, but Melissa McCarthy is returning to Stars Hollow after all and will be reprising her role as Sookie on Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival. McCarthy went public with the news during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote her latest comedy pic Boss, explaining that severe scheduling conflicts needed to be dealt with first. “Literally about an hour ago, we figured out that I am gonna go back and do it!”, she said to loud cheers from the crowd. Watch it go down in the video above.
McCarthy initially said she hadn’t been invited to The Gilmore Girls revival, taking the form of a miniseries of four 90-minute episodes set to air on Netflix at a date TBD. Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Sean Gunn, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Liza Weil, Jared Padalecki and Yanic Truesdale are all confirmed to return for the series which began filming in February and will continue shooting through summer.
Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is executive producing the revival alongside Daniel Palladino, with both writing and directing. Gilmore Girls (working title) is produced by Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
