Jimmy Kimmel Live is having yet another all-Marvel week and tonight’s episode saw an appearance by Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch, on hand to debut the first trailer for the upcoming film. Watch it here now.

First impression: the trailer makes it look like this film owes a lot to Christopher Nolan’s Inception, which makes sense, as among his powers the good doctor counts the ability to travel between different dimensions. Second impression: This film is the debut of Benedict Cumberbatch’s new and improved American Accent, and it isn’t bad (definitely light years better than in August: Osage County and Black Mass). Third impression: This looks, well, it looks awesome. Here’s hoping the film lives up to the mindbending setup presented here.

Doctor Strange follows the journey of Marvel’s Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch), once the world’s top neurosurgeon (he’s didn’t go to 8 years of college to be called Mister Strange) whose surgical career and corresponding insufferable arrogance were ended after a severe car accident that left his hands crippled. Desperate to find a cure and resume his old life, he travels the world only to end up under the mentorship of The Ancient One, the leader of a secret society of magic users who teaches Strange the mystic arts. Returning to New York, Strange becomes the new Sorcerer Supreme, protector of Earth from magical threats.

Along with Cumberbatch, the film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as fellow acolyte of the Ancient One (and, in the comics, bitter enemy) Karl Mordo, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, along with Rachel McAdams as a fellow surgeon from Strange’s old life, Michael Stuhlbarg as rival scientist Nicodemus West, Mads Mikkelsen as a rival magician who carves out his own sect, and Benedict Wong as Strange’s right hand man, Wong. Scott Derrickson is directing from a script by Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill. Doctor Strange magick’s into theaters November 4.
