EXCLUSIVE: New Line Cinema and LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment have acquired rights to an Elite Daily video featuring senior humor writer Connor Toole that went viral last year. They will shape a feature comedy from the video, in which the 6’10” Toole put on a suit, attended the 2015 NBA Draft in New York and spent the night successfully fooling people that he was a second-round selection of the Utah Jazz. It brought him free drinks and plenty of attention from women and hoops fans.
Madica principals Jeff Tahler and Shawn Sachs discovered the video on Elite Daily shortly after the draft and set the project in motion, bringing it to SpringHill’s attention through WME, where they are both repped. SpringHill then brought it to New Line, where it becomes the first feature project since SpringHill signed a long-term content-creation deal with Warner Bros. James will be a producer along with Madica’s Tahler, and Carter and Sachs will be exec producers.

Madica, a sister company to PR film Sunshine Sachs, launched as a production shingle and has upcoming The Castle Next Door – The Novogratz Family Takes Hollywood, a 10-episode reality series for People.com.
